Recruiting 101

If you are currently or plan to be in the recruiting process then I assume you have already seen the new ruling on Juco. I also know that some people will not understand and probably ask "how does this effect me". Well I will tell you that this effects every single high school athlete that in or will be in the recruiting process.

Believe me, the recruiting process is a slow and tedious process. You work tirelessly on the field and then go home to do school work. On top of that you have to try to stay active on social media, reach out to coaches, and hit the gym to improve yourself all while keeping your film updated. You do all of this with the hopes that a college will see the work you are putting in and will offer for you to come play for them. I know this is a lot of work.

Before that is all you needed to do to make it. Now you add in the transfer portal and you are having to compete with athletes that have already proven themselves at the next level but want to leave their school for their own reasons and can be picked up by another school. The transfer portal is now a hurdle that you have to overcome on top of all of the other work you have to get done to be seen. Now you add in the new Juco rule that says that an athlete that is in a Juco program does not lose any of their NCAA eligibility.

This just gives high school athletes another hurdle to have to overcome. Because I am seeing athletes everyday struggling to get seen, while I am seeing athletes entering the portal everyday and most are getting picked up quickly. So, the short answer is "yes" this new ruling effects every high school athlete that is trying to get recruited. This makes it harder for all athletes in high school to get seen and move to the next level.

So you ask "What can I do to fix this issue and have the best chance possible?". The answer is get used to the hurdles thrown your way because I do not see the transfer portal or the Juco ruling going anywhere anytime soon. What I will tell you is that you need to start your recruiting process earlier than you have before and stay active. Ask people for help and do not hesitate to share your film with anyone and everyone. Go to camps throughout the summer. Stop going to camps that do not have colleges on site. If there is not colleges on site then who is seeing your stuff? Make sure the camp has colleges so that these coaches can see your stuff in person. All of our camps have some type of college on site for them and there are a ton of other camps that have colleges on site. Just make sure that if you are going to spend money on a camp that it is going to benefit you.

Just know that we at DeBree would love to work with you and are connected to college coaches. We are also connected with many other recruiters that can help also. We just want to see you succeed and now is the time to get help because recruiting is harder than ever before.

This is DeBree with all of your recruiting needs!
